Understanding Disability in the Aquatic Environment
On October 25, 2025, Cochrane's SLS Centre will be hosting a special in-service training session to help lifeguards, instructors, and staff better understand diverse needs and accessibility in the aquatic environment.
Facilitated by Tanya Salwach, this 8-hour course consists of both classroom learning and in-water learning, where participants will receive practical knowledge about disabilities, common social and behavioural challenges, teaching and communication strategies, and hands-on learning scenarios with specialized equipment and gear.
If this course sounds familiar to you, that might be because Tanya was at our Annual General Meeting in June to deliver a 'sample size' version as a workshop!
If you enjoyed Tanya's AGM workshop and are interested in a more in-depth version of the course, or if you're looking for something similar to our SwimAbilities program, you can register for the session here!
(Please know that you must be 15 years of age or older to participate)
