Seeking Member Feedback on New National Guidelines

Lifesaving Society Canada has released drafts of two new safety standard documents, and is currently seeking feedback from Society members before moving forward.

As Canada's lifeguarding experts, the Lifesaving Society advises the judicial system, governments, and pool/waterfront owners and operators on matters related to public safety in aquatic environments through various position statements and standards.

An important step in the development of these standards is the opportunity for Lifesaving Society affiliates and members to review the drafts and offer suggestions for change. As valued partners of the Society, we encourage you to read and provide feedback on the following draft standards:

1: Lifeguard Supervision for Open Water Swimming

This standard proposes guidelines for appropriate lifeguard supervision during open water swimming events, including the maximum number of swimmers to each lifeguard, and the ideal proximity between lifeguards and swimmers.

The draft document can be read below, in both English and French:

Once you've read the draft, please submit your feedback through this Survey Monkey form by September 5, 2025.

2: Extreme Weather

This standard provides examples of extreme weather hazards, and proposes the steps that aquatic facilities and waterfronts should take to prepare for extreme weather emergencies.

The draft document can be read below, in both English and French:
