The Lifesaving Society has been a leader in developing programs and services to reduce water-related injuries and drownings in Canada since 1896. The Society is a standard setting, international leader in drowning prevention. As a national, volunteer-based, charitable organization, the Society works to prevent drowning and water-related injury through its training programs, lifesaving sport initiatives, drowning research, Water Smart public education, and aquatic safety management services. The Lifesaving Society, previously known as Royal Life Saving Society Canada, has been operating in Alberta since 1924 and the Northwest Territories since 1973.
