Kids Dont Float
The Lifesaving Society has partnered with the Government of Alberta to launch a pilot project called Kids Don't Float, which creates awareness of the importance of wearing lifejackets when enjoying Alberta's beaches, lakes and rivers. As part of the Lifesaving Society Water Smart Campaign two Kids Don't Float Lifejacket Loaner Stations will be placed at two Alberta lakes/beaches: Carson-Pegasus Provincial Park near Whitecourt and Pigeon Lake Provincial Park. These unmanned stations will provide lifejackets to the public to borrow at no cost and then return after use. The selected parks have an above-average water-based recreational activity levels and the conservation officers involved at these parks are also instructors in the Lifesaving Society Water Smart® education and lifesaving training programs. The program will be evaluated from now until the Labour Day long weekend to determine if it will be continued in 2011. For more information on bringing this program to your community, please contact the Society by phone or email.
