Lifesaving Sport

Lifesaving Sport is the most demanding, multi-disciplinary sport in the world; combining athletic ability with lifesaving skills and rescue equipment. Lifesaving Sport is unique because it is the only sport in which skills are learned for humanitarian purposes and then applied to competition.

Lifesaving Sport programs include the Junior Lifeguard Club (JLC) program, Lifesaving Clubs (Junior, Senior, and Masters), Coaching programs, and Officials programs.

As the Canadian sport governing body for lifesaving, the Society promotes healthy living through the creation of Lifesaving Clubs within Canadian communities. Competition, staff training, and camaraderie are but a few of the opportunities to attract new participants to lifesaving programs, to showcase Canada's lifeguards, and to promote public awareness of our drowning and water-related injury prevention aims.

Each club may provide a combination of recreational programming, competitive programming, or both. Club members are challenged individually, and as a team, to excel in lifesaving knowledge and skill, fitness, and leadership. Lifesaving Clubs emphasize fun, fitness, and friendship.

The Lifesaving Society is not just developing great lifesavers, but great Canadians.

Benefits of Lifesaving Sport Programs

Lifesaving Sport and the Junior Lifeguard Club (JLC) program are a great way to keep teens and young adults involved in aquatics. Its unique qualities play to the interests of teens and pre-teens as they finish up their swimming lessons. It can encourage them to learn lifeguarding skills or appeal to their sense of competition.

Lifesaving Clubs teach youth team work and leadership skills. Their new skills will encourage youth to take further lifesaving training and put their leadership skills to work by becoming a Swim or Lifesaving Instructor.

Lifesaving Clubs are not just for youth. Lifesaving clubs provide unique and diverse training programs for adults wishing to maintain their fitness while enjoying their love of aquatics. Clubs can focus on Senior and Masters programming and create fun and challenging fitness activities for adults, with the opportunity to take part in competitive lifesaving events.
