About Us

"Whomsoever you see in distress, recognize him as a fellow man"

The Lifesaving Society is a National, nonprofit, voluntary organization that has been training swimmers to be lifesavers and lifeguards since 1908. We are dedicated to the prevention of water-related incidents and the saving of life in aquatic environments across Canada. We are a member of the RLSS Commonwealth Organization and the Canadian representative to the International Life Saving Federation.

Mission Statement: To prevent drowning and water related incidents for all Canadians by providing: Lifesaving, Lifeguarding, Leadership Education, Public Education.

Proud to work with our partners!

The Lifesaving Society's ability to grow and be successful is a direct result of the support of our many members, partners and friends.

We gratefully acknowledge the substantial support we receive from Alberta Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture and the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation.

We are proud to work in partnership to provide a lifelong opportunity to improve the quality of life through safe, fun, healthy, active living experiences.

The Lifesaving Society is the:

EXPERT in lifeguarding and water safety
AUTHORITY in lifesaving standards, education and rescue
LEADER in research and prevention of drowning and injury
ADVOCATE for active living and aquatic fitness
CHAMPION for competitive lifesaving and sport

In doing so ...
The Lifesaving Society saves lives, enhances life quality and empowers communities.
